impugn, impute (vv.)

Impugn means to "challenge the truth or integrity of something," "to attack its veracity (誠實,真實) ,"as in She impugned his stated [reasons] for resigning.

Impute means "to attribute something, particularly a crime or a fault, to someone or some cause," as in He imputed their loss of the match [to] their lack of practice

The verb impute is used only when the observation made is critical or unflattering, and it often invites an inference that the observation is unfair or unreasonable.
