C
imbecile (adj., n.), imbecilic (adj.)
Imbecile is Standard as both noun and adjective, although adjectival use is less frequent: His imbecile ideas always lead to trouble.
The noun is sometimes used technically to mean "a retarded person with a mental age of three to eight years," but its more common (and hyperbolic) meaning is similar to that of both adjectives, "a foolish or stupid (person)."
Imbecilic is a Standard adjective, usually with the generalized sense (see -IC): Everyone thought her behavior imbecilic.
