Effeminate applies to males certain behavioral qualities usually associated with or attributed to females, and in that use it is frequently derogatory: a man labeled effeminate is usually thought to be weak and unmanly. 



Feminine is the adjective indicative of qualities usually thought to be typical of women, including some qualities traditionally considered desirable—gentleness, modesty, dependence, and the like—but now viewed less positively by many. 



Womanly, which has primarily favorable associations when applied to females, differs from feminine in suggesting qualities particularly or solely associated with maturity, especially in contrast with girlishness. 



Female is the sexually explicit adjective; its basic information is biological.
