Prism

This movie that we're watching is about jealousy, envy, manners, bad manners, misapprehensions, distrust, quilt, innocence. Cybill and I got quite a bit of that kind of stuff, 'cause we're a rather public couple, living together in sin, we weren't married.

And in those days living together without being married was not really accepted, as much as it obviously is now. I'm surprised to say that, but it's true even in the '70s. So this movie was seen, unfortunately, by a lot of people,

trough the prism of that relationship,

as [opposed to] [for] what it was
, which was an attempt to do a very faithful adaptation of a famous story by a great American writer.
